Domestic Water Services
MPM Plumbing & Mechanical Services designs and installs cold water mains services, hot water distribution systems, and boosted water supply installations for commercial and residential buildings across London and the South East, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable water delivery throughout every building we work on.
About This Service
Domestic water services — covering both cold water mains (CWMS) and hot water services (HWMS) — are fundamental to the safe and comfortable operation of any building. Getting the design, sizing, and installation right is critical not only for performance but also for compliance with current Water Regulations, Building Regulations Part G, and CIBSE guidance on Legionella risk management.
MPM installs cold water storage tanks, pressurisation and booster sets, calorifiers, thermal store cylinders, and all associated distribution pipework for commercial and large residential projects. We coordinate with the design team to ensure water systems are correctly sized, appropriately insulated, and installed with sufficient sentinel outlets, dead-leg minimisation, and temperature management measures to satisfy Legionella risk assessment requirements.
For domestic properties, our water services work covers everything from incoming mains connections and cold water tank installations through to full hot water cylinder replacement and unvented cylinder installations. Our project experience includes water services installations at The Newfoundland Project, No. 3 Sheldon Square, and the Fulham Palace Road M&E fit-out.

Frequently Asked Questions
In a commercial or large residential building, domestic water services refers to the cold and hot water supply systems — from the incoming mains connection through to every outlet point in the building. This includes cold water storage tanks, booster pumps, calorifiers or hot water cylinders, distribution pipework throughout the building, and all connection points to sanitary ware, kitchen equipment, laboratory fittings, and other water-using equipment. MPM manages the full mechanical installation of these systems on new build and refurbishment projects.
Legionella bacteria can multiply in water systems where temperatures are between 20°C and 45°C, and in areas of water stagnation such as dead-legs, infrequently used outlets, or poorly insulated cold water pipework. MPM installs domestic water systems in accordance with CIBSE TM13 and HSE guidance — minimising dead-leg lengths, positioning sentinel outlets correctly, insulating cold water pipework to prevent warm-up, and designing hot water systems to maintain storage and distribution temperatures above 60°C to inhibit bacterial growth.
Yes. In tall buildings or developments where mains water pressure is insufficient to supply upper floors, a boosted cold water system is required. MPM installs cold water booster sets — typically comprising duty and standby pumps, a break tank, and pressurisation controls — to maintain adequate water pressure throughout the building. We design and install booster systems to the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) requirements and current British Standards.
An unvented hot water cylinder stores and delivers hot water at mains pressure — unlike a traditional vented system that relies on a cold water storage tank in the loft. This means better shower and tap pressure without the need for a pump. MPM is G3 qualified to install unvented cylinders, which is a legal requirement as these systems operate at higher pressures and must be installed and commissioned by a qualified engineer to ensure the safety devices function correctly.
All domestic water installations must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, which set requirements for the installation, materials, and operation of water fittings to prevent waste, contamination, and misuse of the water supply. MPM installs all water services in accordance with these regulations, using only WRAS-approved materials and fittings, and correctly installing backflow prevention devices at all appropriate points.
Yes. MPM has delivered domestic water services installations on major residential and mixed-use developments including The Newfoundland Project and No. 3 Sheldon Square — large, multi-storey buildings requiring carefully coordinated cold and hot water distribution systems across hundreds of apartments. We work from mechanical design drawings and coordinate closely with the main contractor and other trades to deliver on programme and to specification.
