Project Overview
One of the most iconic and high-profile commercial developments in recent London history, the Apple European Headquarters at Battersea Power Station represents the transformation of a Grade II* listed industrial landmark into a world-class corporate campus. MPM Plumbing & Mechanical Services was engaged by main contractor ISG to deliver mechanical works on this prestigious project — including heat exchanger riser cupboards, LTHW and CHW distribution pipework in what was at the time the largest air handling plant room in Europe, and a water main alteration incorporating an RPZ valve.
About This Project
The Battersea Power Station development is a landmark regeneration project on the south bank of the Thames, transforming the historic 1930s power station and surrounding site into a mixed-use destination comprising offices, retail, restaurants, and residential apartments. Apple’s European Headquarters occupies a significant portion of the development, with the tech giant’s exacting standards for quality, sustainability, and precision setting the benchmark for every trade on the project. The office fit-out was carried out by main contractor ISG, with MPM delivering specialist mechanical works across multiple elements of the building services installation.
MPM’s scope on this project comprised three distinct elements. First, the installation of heat exchanger riser cupboards serving the office floor fan coil units — each cupboard supplying LTHW and chilled water on a separate circuit to the building risers, ensuring precise control of heating and cooling at each floor. Second, the installation of LTHW and chilled water flow and return distribution pipework within the air handling plant room — at the time of installation in 2018, the largest air handling plant room in Europe. Third, a water main alteration incorporating an RPZ valve to protect the Apple HQ office fit-out’s water supply to the required specification.
The Apple Battersea project stands as one of the most prestigious in MPM’s portfolio. Delivering across three distinct mechanical scopes — riser cupboards, plant room distribution, and water main alteration — within one of the world’s most scrutinised building projects is a testament to our engineers’ technical breadth and their ability to perform to the very highest standards when working for one of the world’s most demanding clients.
